The Doncaster & District Postcard; Philatelic Society.

 

The society can trace its formation back to 1936 and is an informal collection of 10 members who meet on the second Tuesday of every month in the back room of the Park Social Club, Eden Grove, Edenthorpe.

We organise member’s displays, talks and competition boards featuring old and modern postcards, as well as organising various social events and occasional visits to  stamp and postcard fairs throughout the country, where we able to purchase material for our individual stamp and postcard collections.

We also issue occasional first day covers with a commemorate stamp to mark a local or national event We also attend the Doncaster Family History Fair, the Doncaster Local History Fair, the Rotherham Local History Fair and the Dearne Valley Local History Fair Doncaster may be well known for its butterscotch, horse racing and mining industry, but less well known is that was a centre for national postcard production, and we are currently researching the output of the Doncaster postcard publishers. Their names, for example, Edgar Scrivens and James Simonton – may be familiar to local historians and we are grateful for their work in producing a photographic record, of the Doncaster area throughout the 20th Century.

Annual membership is £3 and new members are welcome.
